5 Fit the new plug into the socket,
then use the socket, with
extension bar if needed, to insert
the plug. As the cylinder head is
made of aluminium, which is soft
and easily damaged, thread the
plug as far as possible into the
head turning the tool by hand so
you can easily tell if it begins to
cross-thread.
6 Once the plug is finger-tight,
tighten it to the torque setting
given in the manual or handbook
if you have a torque wrench, or
if not tighten it by 1/2 a turn
after the washer has seated, or
according to the instructions
on the box or in the manual or handbook. Be very careful not to overtighten the plug.
7 Fit the cap or coil onto the
spark plug, making sure it is
pushed fully on, and in the case
of the coil, connect the wiring
to it. On multi-cylinder in-line
engines double-check that
each cap or coil is connected
to the correct spark plug. Refit
any components that were
previously removed to access the plugs, then start the engine and
check that it is running correctly, and unless you have a single-cylinder
engine, make sure it is running on all cylinders!
