How you handle bulbs is important, and particularly with quartz halogen
headlight bulbs you need to be careful not to touch the glass with your
fingers, because the oil in your skin will cause the bulb to heat unevenly
and fail prematurely. Ideally, hold the new bulb by its terminals, but if
touching the glass is unavoidable, either wear gloves or use a tissue to
prevent skin contact.
It is a good idea to carry a spare bulb of each type on the bike at all times,
especially if you ride at night, and certainly if you ride in Europe as in
some countries it is a legal requirement.
