Guide
Getting your motorcycle serviced at a main
dealer has always been the most expensive way
of maintaining it. Fortunately, Haynes’ mission
has always been to give people the information
and the confidence to DIY, which is why we’ve
created this free print-out-and-keep ebook on
motorcycle maintenance.
The reality of life is that quite a large number of motorcycles and
scooters in everyday use are ridden by owners who have little
understanding of how their machine works. Many are quite content to
remain in this state of blissful ignorance, having their machine serviced
at regular intervals as and when the need occurs, or repairs carried out
when problems necessitate. Not everyone has the ability or inclination
to look after these matters themselves and it is as well that they are
aware of their own limitations.
But it really needn’t be that way, because all powered two-wheelers
share a number of similarities, even though at first glance a 50cc scooter
seems far removed from a large-capacity sports motorcycle. Each has two
wheels, an engine and a transmission system, which are all held together
by a frame, usually with some form of suspension between that and the
wheels. And keeping everything in good fettle isn’t that difficult at all.
